I would certainly agree we have inactive and dysfunctional Vets....

Re: C1 Disaster Imminent?

You should have seen Shepperton yesterday evening (or what is now known as t-grip Tuesday), there were seven of us in C1s, actually more than the kayaks! Ok, it’s a second class for all of them except me, but it was still a good group with a mix of div 1 and div 2 standard paddlers. I certainly enco...

Re: Vets' Points

It really is a tough one... We need to reflect the comparative difficulty of Div 1 and Div 2, make sure we maintain differentiation within Vets, and make sure any solution is long-term, not just to address challenges with specific paddlers/classes right now. My thinking is still that a multiplier on...

Re: Vets' Points

John, only problem with just adding 500 points to the normal Div 1 points (I think it's already come up in this thread) is that then coming last (even if that's by a minute) gets you more points than winning a Div 2. As well as figuring out who's the best paddler over the season, we do want to encou...

Re: Sshhh – it’s a secret! The Pan Celtic

Dee, I may well be forgetting something important, but I doubt think there should be any financial implications, as I'm assuming it would just run as it does now, points from nominated team paddlers based on position in the race. Unless you were thinking of something else, like it being separate run...

Re: Sshhh – it’s a secret! The Pan Celtic

Appreciate that it's not ideal for Scottish paddlers, but I do like the idea of running it as a single race at the Open, with the J12 part of the Div 2 on the Legacy.

Given it's a Prem and the Open most of the paddlers who'd be selected for the Pan Celtic teams will be there anyway...

Re: Vets' Points

Jasper I think the current system works ok for C1 vets, but I can see how it doesn't work for K1's at the moment. I do quite like Steve's suggestion of a points multiplier, rather than a time factor (which then takes us back to the days when several of us in C1M were getting 1000 points in every rac...

Re: Div4 promotions

Interesting idea around changing Div 4 to Open, although I echo's Dee's concerns about ranked paddlers entering and therefore messing with the percentages. Not sure how to get round that though... It sounds similar to the system British Cycling have for road racing, where everyone starts as Cat 4 an...

Re: Vets' Points

Sorry Donna, I’d agree with Nick, you shouldn’t be able to get more points at a div 1 by turning up and making it to the finish line than getting 2nd or 3rd at a Div 2. Nick’s compromise of a factor at prem & 1, but direct comparison at 2/3 might work. It’s a big jump in competitiveness, in particul...

Re: Vets' Points

I certainly wouldn't want to see vets scrapped, mostly because it's such a nice atmosphere on the start line. People take it to varying degrees of seriousness, but everyone is up for a chat and some banter before the start. I think the factor on time thing was an issue a few years ago as me and Dave...

Re: Encouraging volunteers

Mike, I'd agree re some flexibility at div 2 and below. When I've been jury chair/chief judge at div 2 and below I've tried to use it as a teaching/learning experience for paddlers and parents, preparing them for the strict interpretation of the rules/timing etc they'll have to deal with at div 1. O...

Re: Division 2/3 Veterans Trophy

That sounds like a reasonable idea, although given the situation with points for the kayak classes now, it's likely that whoever wins the former 2/3 trophy would actually win the class overall for the year, and the former overall trophy would be some way down the rankings. Not that it's necessarily ...

Re: How Much is too much for Div 1s

Appreciate that it's all a bit off the original topic but... I agree that there's a challenge with juniors dropping off the RTA/SRS squads and then giving up as they suddenly lose the status and access to water/coaching, but I do question if some of that is down to parents who make that the focus ra...

Re: Back-up Dates?

I think that's well worth consideration. Appreciate it won't be ideal due to people planning weekends, work, accommodation etc, but surely having a back-up date that not everyone can make is better than no race at all? For somewhere like Shepperton it'd be great to have a backup date a month later, ...

Re: Panic Buying or Plain Daft

As far as I'm aware none of the races later in the year are yet full, even now a couple of weeks after the opening date, so it doesn't seem like it's a problem?
