Re: Cardington 2,3,4 Slalom September 2017

Assuming all goes to plan I'll be there all weekend, just put entries for my boys in the post yesterday, so you can put me down if you're still short.

Re: Time for a radical rethink?

I imagine the age limit for clubs are children who aren't accompanied on the water. We have children out in single boats from about 7-8 but parents have to be on the water with them, so usually we get the parent trained up first so they are able to then take their children out safely. Our limit is a...

Cool, thanks. I'll try and get commitment and get entries in early!

Re: Cardington 2,3,4 Slalom September 2017

Hi Patrick, is there likely to be capacity for div 4 late entries? I have a few from Windsor who are interested, but I doubt I'll be able to get entries in for them in advance.

Thanks

Paul.

Re: C2 Structure for 2018 Season

Dee, officially I think that's true, but unofficially it's assumed that if you apply for your bib quickly then the points will be credited. Perhaps if that's an admin issue then it would make sense to allow scratch crews with no expectation they need to get a bib. Formalising scratch crews at 2/3 wo...

Re: C2 Structure for 2018 Season

I think most C2 crews (me and Ethan included) who paddle together for more than one race do want some proper ongoing competition, rankings and to take it seriously. Although there's certainly a place for more casual, fun racing across all classes, it would be a shame if that was the only option for ...

Re: Time for a radical rethink?

Couple of thoughts on this... Firstly, I do think the age profile of the sport at the moment makes it difficult for adult beginners. Go do a Div 3 or Div 4 race and it's all juniors, mostly J14, with maybe a couple of adults. Obviously disheartening, and I suspect a little embarrassing for some to b...

Re: C2 Structure for 2018 Season

Having had some time to ponder... I'd like to see a combination of selecting C2 crews for international races, with a far looser performance criteria at selection, on a self-funded basis. No cost to the performance programmes, but would motivate crews to continue to race at the top of Prem (or top o...

Re: C2 Structure for 2018 Season

Thanks Steve for putting some structure around the general mutterings in various different threads! I'd also like to give it some proper thought, but 100% agree that we should come to the AGM with a really solid proposal with as much backing as possible. I'll be at the Open so happy to join in a mee...

Re: Boat Weights

I remember someone posting results of testing of on this forum, I'm sure someone will re-post the details, but I think it showed a noticeable advantage when comparing a lighter boat to a heavier boat (as you'd expect) and then a smaller advantage, when comparing two boats with the same overall weigh...

Re: Is C2 Viable as a ranking class?

Sounds like now is the time to start talking about any changes ready for an AGM proposal, if required. There has been some talk about whether we have a single C2 division, with crews being able to enter any race they want with points awarded as per the host division, which works now with the new poi...

Re: Boat Weights

My understanding is that it's exclusively about keeping the sport affordable, and as Jim has said, avoiding the wealthiest paddlers gaining an advantage from super-light boats that are either disposable, or made of super-exotic materials. With no weight restriction I could imagine boats being down a...

Re: Is C2 Viable as a ranking class?

Ethan and I are doing a C2 judges run at Shepperton this weekend, and I'm sure will be back racing again in 2/3 next year when we get demoted! It was great at Cardington last year where there were eleven C2 crews on one of the days. Ironically it looks like we might end up with a hardcore of regular...

Re: Cardington 2,3 4 Slalom June 2017

Hi guys, might have a couple coming along from Windsor, do you know if there's likely to be space for entries on the day?

I should be up one of the days (probably Saturday) for judging, or can do jury if you still need someone.

Cheers

Paul.

Re: Division 2 and Open Competitors/Event

An 'Open' is a completely separate event run alongside a normal ranking event, with a separate start list, results, prizes etc which is open to all divisions, and has a set entry fee of £6 (excepting the British Open, for obvious reasons...) The direct entry rule is there to allow someone who is an ...
