Re: Fins on boats

The rule was clearly intended to eliminate clip in, bolt in or glue in/on fins that can be re-configured between runs When you require and check for radiused ends on the boat for safety reasons it makes no sense to let people put blades on the bottom. Between people feeling that a rule change is re...

Re: ACM Motion 6.4 Course Erection

I'm just not sure what this motion is trying to achieve. There are clubs that put up the course several days ahead to give their own members lots of practice time. This can bite them in the bum if the water changes, but usually it increases existing home advantage. I think that for Div 1 "the cours...

Re: ACM Motion 6.11British Team Ranking

Bear in mind also that: The Prem calendar is early- and late-season loaded almost to the point of the ridiculous - there is no racing for Prem paddlers through the summer - and one of the reasons for this, though it might have been forgotten, is to avoid, as far as possible, clashing with World Cups...

Re: ACM Motion 6.11British Team Ranking

It is my club's view that having the GB team run last undermines the status of Bib #1 and the effort put in to achieve it, which reflects a real commitment to racing in the GB programme. GB team members can and do achieve #1 position in the GB rankings by their own efforts.

Re: Timing

I don't know but as Steve estimated: A time difference of 1 second between competitors therefore equates to a difference between finishers of about 3m, or nearly a boat length. A time difference of 0.1 secs equates to a distance difference of about 30cm or 1 foot. Pretty clear to say who should win....

Re: ACM Motion 6.7 Voting

I like this, but I think it would be better written: Each voting club may have up to five votes, allocated as follows: 6.1 Each Voting Club will have one vote and will be allocated an additional vote if it has 21 Ranked Members or more. 6.2 Subject to the limit of five votes in all, each Voting Club...

Re: ACM Motion 6.6 Bib Deposit

Is the bib deposit going up to £10?
Yes, I hope that's the intention of this item.

Re: ACM Motion 6.11British Team Ranking

I am confused. How will any of this be done before Selection? By what numbers will we identify the GB team members at races? What is the definition of "GB Team" bearing in mind that different teams are nominated for different races? Taking a couple of examples, one member of the current GB team is r...

Re: ACM Motion 6.2 Paddle Up Priority

I like the principle, but:
  • Doesn't this, in practice, give more races to those who have already had races, at the expense of those who haven't been able to get entries to past races?
  • I don't understand how last year's rankings are taken into account.

Re: ACM Motion 6.1 Promotion Levels

As background information: the effect of this year's small increase in promotion targets appears to have been very marginal. Compared to 2017 there has been a small drop in the proportion of active Div 2 and Div 3 paddlers promoted. This could be simply the effect of some races being lost - there is...

For info: I have edited the Wikipedia page to say 30 pounds, not 30 kilos.

Re: C1 Promotion points

The number of paddlers going up needs to be reflected in the numbers going down otherwise Div 1 in particular could be very oversubscribed. No, it's more complicated than that, Dee. The number of paddlers promoted during the course of the year plus any end-of-year promotions needs to be balanced ag...

Re: C1 Promotion points

Looking back at the original post, it was about paddlers who've had some really good results but aren't quite there for promotion. Thank you WindsorCC, it was. And since it was posted the numbers promoted in C1 have sorted themselves out nicely. The shortfall due to lost races is in K1M, and it doe...

Tryweryn Pan Celtic and Prem 29/30 September

Published on behalf of Mark Abbott: We are still waiting for confirmation regarding a water release for the Premier races at the Tryweryn. The dam feeding the river is very low and the Environment Agency is closely monitoring the situation. Can I ask that anyone who is entered for the races please c...

Re: Timing

I've seen start sat about a metre up from a start line.
The solution to this is putting the judge in the right position, not adjusting the timing standards!
