Re: Championship Format in Prem

That would make the "superfinal" into a parade, and award places and points points out of all proportion to performance. Let's keep the race open and give the top J16s prizes as top J16s, and places in the final if they earn them.

Re: C2 Structure for 2018 Season

You have to be ranked to use the online entry system at all, so scratch crews are excluded from online advance entry by default.

Re: Coping with Numbers in Div 1

Published for Lou at Llandysul Paddlers: Our October slalom is one of the last div 1 races of the season and therefore it is always super busy and there is always a waiting list. As you know we ALWAYS try and make sure that everyone gets a race and last year we even flirted with the realms of dayli...

Re: Simplifying Vets

Taking a step back, it's probably worth asking why people turn Vet rather than racing as Masters in the mainline divisions. They ought to speak for themselves, but I think it's because: * There's a Vets camaraderie on the start line * There is no risk of demotion, so they can take a relaxed approach...

Re: Coping with Numbers in Div 1

My first race was on Bala Mill there were 111 K1 men on the start list and the previous day I raced in a Div 2 at the Graveyard with 130 K1 men so why all of a sudden have we got a problem? How many K1Ws, C1Ms and C1Ws were there at your Bala Mill race, Mick? At HPP last week we had 85 K1Ms, 40 K1W...

Re: Coping with Numbers in Div 1

Broadly, Dee's numbers suggest that early season races cope, and a problem develops as the season goes on. Which makes sense, partly because Div 1 numbers typically grow by about 20% over the year (some promoted to Prem, but about 3 times as many promoted from Div 2) each event should have an entry ...

Coping with Numbers in Div 1

Quite a few Div 1 races have been oversubscribed. It's debateable how big a problem this is: not that many "waiting list" applicants haven't got a race. But if it is a problem, help me with ideas about managing it. We could 1 Get Div 1 numbers down. How? Demote more: Demote from below a higher cut-o...

Re: Simplifying Vets

how would Vet. ranking points be calculated in such circumstances? By factoring and comparing with K1M (as now), but I was trying to stick to the simple concept. My only concern is... to race at a P/1, you have to have been in that division at some point, which does make sense. Especially given the...

Re: Simplifying Vets

Tweaking the suggestion above:
* Points are calculated by comparison with the equivalent divisional event (C1M with C1M, etc) if quorate. At a Div 2/3, the comparison is with Div 2.

Simplifying Vets

With reference to Dee's thread, but taking it seriously, how about simplifying Vets like this: * All Vets are in one division (compare with Steve's proposal for C2) * Registered Vets can enter a competition at any level (at their discretion!) * Points are calculated by the inquorate comparison with ...

Re: C2 Structure for 2018 Season

I'm getting pretty fed up with the implication (Canadian, Steve) that I think ease of admin is more important than paddler satisfaction. Read my input again: I don't. But it is fair to point out that keeping track of C2s is a lot of work, and we need to know that the paddlers actually want that work...

Re: C2 Structure for 2018 Season

Yes, bib application is where we check BC membership. It's also how we provide judges with something (a bib) they can identify the crew with, and timing teams with a number ID to track them.

Re: C2 Structure for 2018 Season

Nick, I think you're asking to have your cake and eat it. Part of the problem with C2 is having "the system" do anything at all. Pairs who have bib numbers in the Yearbook are OK - if they use their proper bib number, which a lot don't. New pairs have no bib number unless they apply, and we can't ge...

Re: C2 Structure for 2018 Season

So, to put this in a nutshell, Steve: C2 Div 2/3 races would be open to all comers, and would get places and points calculated by comparison with other classes. But rankings would only be calculated for pairs who applied for bibs - although you could perhaps race first and apply for the bib afterwar...
