Re: McConkey Slalom 2012

Maybe a slightly biassed S&S view but agree with most of the comments posted. Saturday course too tight and fiddly without sufficient consideration of C2's especially, Sunday course spot on. I was busy with the event so didn't get to see too much of the "Come and Try It" or meet the athletes - Lizz...

Bala Mill - Div 2/3 Paddling Up

Info for the Bala Mill Div 2/3 suggests Div 3's will race on different course to Div 2's. Presumably then the Div 3 paddlers cannot get paddle up results. Disappointing for those chasing promotion from Div 3 with two consecutive weekends of Div 3 races cancelled (Outibridge and Matlock). Why are the...

There is some reference in the post above about "the slab", that has not been mentioned elsewhere. As a long term slalom and recreational coach I feel that, at low river levels, the hole that is now opening up to river right of the slab is becoming extremely dangerous and if this is not remedied, w...

I believe this motion is flawed! Is the problem that all K1W get promoted too quickly or that some cannot cope with the water in the higher divisions? I believe the latter is the real issue. This motion actually encourages participation on easier water. K1W %'s compared to K1M are nearly always low...

Of course the winners are in Prem or Div 1, they are the best paddlers in the race! What should be of concern is the number of top paddlers that do not compete at the National Junior/Veteran Champs because it is run on Div 3 standard water. The u14 Champs does normally attract most of the top paddl...

Kind of tied in with this thread - why is K1M Div 3 to Div 2 promotion 3300pts but K1W and C1 Div 3 to Div 2 promotion 320pts?

If not enough K1M are gaining promotion from Div 3 then lowering the points to 3200 would make it a bit easier and equate with the K1W and C1's.

By end of season there were 8 K1M, 5 K1W and 5 C1 promotions. We can assume they would probably have been the top boats if there were no in season promotion. If we reverted to the old system it would seem reasonable to promote these numbers from each class so all would be in Prem next year anyway. ...

Having attended most Div 1 races over the past two seasons my view is that one of the reasons for less water time is poor race organisation. "Back in the day" it was quite possible to get 200 paddlers down a course in a day but the operation had to be slick. Go to a race abroad and it is usually th...

Quote from current Canoe Slalom web page: "The International Panel will be deliberating the finer points over the next 10 days and a draft selection document will be published by 4th November 2006 for general comment. The Junior selection policy is still in the discussion stages but a draft policy ...

So the debate goes on ...

What happens now - we all wait for two weeks until the ACM and then it goes to a vote? Where are most of the clubs with the votes located in the country?

Thought I'd come on-line and post my views - I see many are ahead of me! How many others have already booked their holidays and accommodation based on the original dates? A great number from our club have done so and some cannot now change. The dates have been available for quite some time so why h...

The course at Krakow is excellent for training, even though it looks a bit boring. You can paddle back up most of it for repeat stuff, i.e. no walk backs.
For the Poles it's probably an option of training in the tent or not training in the middle of winter - know what I'd choose!
