Re: Restructuring the divisions

That might be true if, as you imply, the paddlers who come up to Div 1 are not as good as the paddlers who are already there. I'm asking rather than implying - I am still learning what makes a good slalom paddler. You make a good point that paddle ups have to beat 40% of the higher division, on the...

Re: Restructuring the divisions

Pretty common statement is that if div 1 gets shrunk by demotion the demoted paddlers will give up racing. What do the paddlers say? Have we really raised a generation that quit at the first setback? I suggested before that if there is a problem with the numbers, it is likely to be down to in-season...

Re: Restructuring the divisions

I thought there were still events on the Tryweryn - probably not all 5 sites though? Do the Graveyard, International and Chapel Falls sites overlap? If not would it be possible to run 2 split class races simultaneously, say K1M C1W on Graveyard Saturday, Chapel Sunday, and K1W C1M on Chapel Saturday...

Re: AKC Seaton Slalom - Postponement

I'm sorry to read that Craig, I had heard that you have some not insignificant problems to address with flood damage. Hang on to my entry for now - I am away most of September but no point withdrawing it until you have a new date confirmed, unless I get promoted before then of course. Jim Div 3 C1M ...

Re: Restructuring the divisions

Whether there is a political change in access law or not, there still needs to be an organisation prepared to set up and run sites, i.e. a local club. So if we start off by thinking about sites that used to be suitable slalom courses, and then work out if why they ceased to be used (landowner withdr...

I'm pretty sure Jim means the BC(U) Access Committee, its why they claim to exist.

Re: Restructuring the divisions

The minimum time you can allow between runs in most classes is 50 seconds. The reason being that the rules state that paddlers must have a minimum gap of 45 seconds. You cannot control the exact moment that a paddler goes over the start line so if you run at 45 seconds intervals every other paddler...

Re: Restructuring the divisions

It has become apparent to me that the high number of paddlers in Div 1 is due to too many right-handed paddlers To the contrary, the C1 stats from Tully are partly down to the number of left handed paddlers unable to work out how to make the cross in the middle section whilst staying high enough to...

Re: Restructuring the divisions

45 second interval. If control can cope, this should not pose any problems for the paddlers. If the target time for winning K1M is 95 seconds, they would catch someone who takes 140 seconds, or 147% Duncan's ranking database on this website lists the % behind the winner that every paddler finishes, ...

Re: Restructuring the divisions

I think we have the same broad idea then, although our reasoning may be slightly different. When it comes to recognising how many paddlers in top divisions don't have good white water or gate technique I don't have the slalom experience to identify them so I'll have to beleive you. Clearly there are...

Re: Restructuring the divisions

It seems to me as a relative newcomer to slalom that there are a number of issues that have built up presumably over some time: - In-season promotion has caused div 1 to fill up But it is still unclear if filling up is actually the problem, or if not having enough races is the real problem? - In se...

Re: Rationing Entries

If we stop allowing doubling up, what would happen to C1 and C2? It is hard enough to get people racing in them as it is, how many paddlers would pick C1 over kayak, or C2 over kayak or C1? I was actually having the entirely opposite thought yesterday, C1 is short of paddlers, and I have heard a few...

Re: HPP 1/2 7th & 8th May

Hi Dave,

Small mistake, and it may be my inability to put the right dates on my cards, you seem to have me in as an official on Sunday when I am entered in div 2, but not on Saturday.

Re: Paddle up - how to enter?

I found the detail on the website - not in the yearbook, but I presume it is accurate: ● You can't usually "paddle up" at a combined divisions event, where you are in the lower division and the two divisions race on the same course. For instance, at Div 2/3 race you can't usually paddle as a Div 3 a...
