New Permanent Gate Training Venue and Open Invitation

Lower Wharfe Canoe Club with the support and co-operation of Howsham Mill Renewable Heritage Trust have developed a new slalom training site 12 miles east of York. The course will be floodlit to provide year round training.

It is not often a new permanent gate training venue comes on stream so to celebrate the new course we are running an Open Event alongside Howsham Div 2/3 slalom on 21/22 July (the weekend before the Opening Ceremony of The Olympic Games).

The format of the Open on the Saturday will be a 2 run qualifier on the main weir course followed by an evening single run final on the new mill race course. There will be commentary for the final with food and hand-pulled Yorksire Ale available for spectators.

The Open Event will have both a Junior and an over-50s category.

With some top paddlers already entered come and help us launch the new site. See the year book or canoe slalom website for details.

Congratulations on achieving a new permanent training site; and good luck with the special event next month.
