Keep it simple.
If someone gets promoted with a 50 then that fine, we need to encourage everyone to progress.

Has anyone looked at Symonds Yat results from 2 weeks ago.
1st K1 Ladies got 250 penalties and promoted to Div 2. Competed on the Dart and came 2nd. Now in the ENTS squad.
Nothing rong with that at all.

The Only exception should be in VETS. A 50 should result in a disqualification from that event.
A Swim, disqualification for the Year.

Div 4's were my main thought. But it is probably too random a reason to exclude from promotion, perhaps just being able to opt out of promotion is the solution. I'm not sure. There are paddlers who would prefer not to be promoted (yet).

I wasn't suggesting anyone would deliberately do a 50 to avoid a ranking result but then again I've never been in the position where I didn't want to get promoted but I've met quite a few paddlers over the years who were. Anyway that wasn't my point, that's a whole other conversation.

I haven't put it forward as a motion and don't intend to.

Especially if it's before the start?

Especially if it is before the start.

I must point out that only my C2 partner Swam.

So yes that would disqualify us from C2 but not my individual race.

I found myself thinking back to an Old Windsor Div 2 slalom, where most of the radials were open. After the first runs, ALL the C1 paddlers had missed a lot of gates. The best score was a paddler who had left the start line, done gate 1, then gate 18, then crossed the finish line. Admittedly on the second runs, one paddler did manage to get round the whole course, and won.

I have a sneaky suspicion that the paddler who took the C2 swim before the start line at Llandysul may have been the same who got all the 50's at Old Windsor?

Sometimes you just have to do what is best for the team.

I can recall a div 2 C1 paddler who despite a recent incostal strain did a Pan Celtic run at Tully div 1 after being assured that as long as he passed through both beams and a gate would score points for Scotland. I seem to recall I got more than half of the downs, but didn't want to risk my ribs in the ups at all, and was 2nd in PC Vets C1 picking up good points for Scotland with +552 on my only run time. I was a paddle up, but the 48 ranking points would not have helped me towards promotion

I recall a div 3 at Windsor, waves were huge, house size. It was hard to know if you went through all the gates as it was so fast. I think I won with a fifty.
