Re ranking in season

Post by Canadian Paddler » Sun Jun 20, 2021 12:12 pm

The Slalom Committee has recently met and is encouraged by both the interest from clubs in running competitions and the number of paddlers attending competitions.

Some paddlers, especially juniors, have been able to continue to develop during the period where it was not possible to compete, but were not given the opportunity to demonstrate this. This may result in an imbalance in the divisions, that will persist until the slalom season can return to normal.

To address this, the committee has agreed two new rules relating to re ranking of existing ranked paddlers:
2.9.5 Athletes selected for a representative Great Britain team, or as a reserve for such a team, may apply to the Slalom Committee for re-ranking in the Premier division in that class
2.9.6 Athletes already ranked in canoe slalom, who compete on the same course and conditions as a higher division may compare their results to the results for the higher division. If the result places the athlete in the top 30% of the higher division they may apply to the Slalom Committee for reranking in that division.
For the avoidance of doubt, this means that the athlete must beat an athlete earning more than
• 1,400 points at a premier division event
• 700 points at a division 1 event
• 350 points at a division 2 event
• 175 points at a division 3 event.

In both cases, the application should be made to the Secretary of the slalom Committee (slalom.secretary@vol.britishcanoeing.org.uk).

The rules have been introduced under motion 5.1 from the 2020 ACM, which confirmed the committee’s ability to make rule changes. These rules will only be in place for the 2020-21 season.

The effect, and effectiveness of these rules will be reviewed later in the year and, if felt useful, motions will be introduced to the 2021 ACM to permanently change the rules.
