JUNCTION19.COM

Junction 19 of the M1, where the A14 European Trunk Route joins the M6 and M1, also known as the Catthorpe Interchange, is 10 years beyond capacity. Its inadequate construction causes countless hours of delays to motorists, results in misery to local communities and represents a serious safety hazard.

Despite this, a government review of highways projects has put the redesign plans on indefinite hold.

If you are:

A commuter

A haulier

A HGV driver

A warehouse/distribution operator

A resident of Rugby, Lutterworth or Market Harborough

A local villager

Anyone else affected by this dog’s breakfast of a junction,

then please sign the petition to Prime Minister Brown to demonstrate the level of concern and breadth of impact.

I do live in Rugby, very close to the Cathorpe Interchange and as a Rugby resident will not go anywhere near the place.

The main problem is approaching from the north on the M6 towards the M1 south, you approach the A14 turn off before you bear right towards the M1 and you actually lose a lane of the M6 to standing traffic, at busy times you end up with stationary traffic backing up the main carriageway for quite a distance.

The result you end up with motorists realising they are in the wrong lane too late, try to move out, and bang! another accident at Cathorpe.

It is such a regular feature in our local news that you come to expect it.

Regarding plans to put improvements on hold, unless you know something new, there was supposed to be 5 proposals to be put forward at a public meeting and this was only advertised a few days ago.

And yes if you do use this junction please make your voice heard. If any of you do drive this way and want to feel safer, I suggest you come off the M6 at junction 1, go left on the roundabout and head towards the A5 and take that towards the A14 & M1. a bit longer and slower by a couple of miles, but you might just survive to race again!
To err is human, if you really want to screw up, use a computer!!
