Shameless plug... (and I've already got some entries!!)

On the 26th and 27th July, a double division 3/4 slalom is taking place on the Grand Union Canal at Harefield, Middlesex. Don't be put off by 'the canal' - there's a couple of sluices to spice things up a bit!

It's a 'double' race so there is one race on the Saturday and one race on the Sunday, you can enter either one, or both - the course will be changed slightly on the Saturday evening.

There's also a team event (which means 3 of you racing together!) on the Saturday.

If it's not your division, how about trying a new class? It is also suitable for novices - so bring your friends too! Entry starts at just £4 for juniors. It's a lot more exciting than most completely flat division 4 races, and Harefield is easily accessible (5 mins from Junction 17 of the M25). Other BIG bonus is that there's an excellent pub at the finish!!

For more information e-mail nicky.cresser at hotmail.co.uk (replace at with at sign!)

There are more course details on www.canoeslalom.co.uk/courses/harefield.htm

It's not long now, and things are coming together nicely!

The prizes are on order, the campsite has been arranged, the cakes and bacon have been ordered, all we need now is race day to arrive!

A large part of the course will be going up on Wednesday eve, so if anyone local wants a bit of practice it'll be there! the remainder will go up on Friday morning.

Get your entries in it's going to be a good'n!

We'll be starting work from about half five, but not sure how long these slalom courses take to put up!

The usual group will be down from 7 though, so feel free to join in!

I may need to be a bit clearer, wednesday 23, not tomorrow.

But feel free to come down this wednesday too!

See you soon!

What time are you planning to start the event on Saturday/Sunday?

(Oh look another bouncy ball!)

How are the entries going Nicky?

Not quite a shameless plug, more of an assist :D

Right we're getting there!

We've already got over 40 entries for each day, and 10 gates up, so it's looking good!

CP, we had Ross down this evening and he was wondering if you were going to show your face and do C2 with him. There were several mentions of the good old days...

Anyway, the forcast's good, we're taking entries on the day, so it's not too late to experience the delights that HArefield has to offer!

See you there

Nicky

St Albans & Hertsmere CC
Harefield Division 3/4 Double
26/27 July 2008

Camping & Parking

Camping and Parking will be available in the “Clancydocwra Group” field adjacent to the pub car park on coppermill lane. There will be a small charge for each at either £1 per day for parking, or £5 per tent (£6 per Caravan) for the weekend camping. Please see map below for details of the field layout, although there should be marshalls on site throughout the event. Please do not park in the pub car park throughout the event, we have a good relationship with them and this weekend is likely to be very busy, so please use the car park provided. Please be aware that no access is permitted beyond the middle gates and fence within the camping area and No parking is allowed on the entrance road within Clancydocwra field as this is in use during the day by there vehicles. If you do park on the road your car is liable to be removed.

We have the field from 4PM on Friday night. The gates will however be closed at 10 PM, please call Nicky on 07733 140 322 for assistance if required after that time.

We have been unable to arrange running water, so please bring your own! We would also appreciate it if you could take your litter home.

Catering

Bacon Butties will be available each morning from 9 am to midday, after that we will be selling a selection of canned drinks, tea, coffee, cakes and sweets from a narrow boat that has kindly been offered to us for the weekend!

Boat Storage

Due to the Grand Union being an active canal, and residents requiring access to their properties along the tow path, please ensure that boats are either taken back to the camping field, or are left in one of the allocated areas.

Toilets

There will be a number of Chemical toilets provided. There is also a pub on site, please do not enter the pub in wet canoe kit.

Race Schedule

Late entries will be taken on each day up until 10:30 We are aiming to start at 11:00, although this will more than likely be put back until 11:30 if there is significant volume of late entries.

Team Race

There will be a team race after the event on Saturday. We will take entries for this up until 1PM. You can enter as an individual and then we will allocate you a team which will be displayed outside control. The team race is an open event, although there will be prizes for the division 3 and 4 teams.

Demonstration Runs

We are lucky to have quite a number of top premier and division 1 paddlers attending, so demo runs will be taking place at the beginning of the event.

C2/C1

We have a number of C1 and C2 boats available to borrow during the event, and already have quite a number of entries. Due to this C1 and C2 runs will be carried out throughout the event at the beginning of each category, please ensure that you are at the start for your allotted time to ensure that you get your run!

Prizes

We will provide prizes for 1st 2nd and 3rd in each of the categories along with appropriate junior prizes depending on the numbers attending. There will also be a ladies Canadian prizes.

Team prizes will also be provided for the first team, first div 3 team and first div 4 team.

The forecast is looking good and we already have enough entries for a good event, but we would always welcome some more!

Sat Nav

For those that have Sat Nav the Post Code is UB9 6HZ.

Support/Thanks

A big thank you to the Clancydocwra Group and the Coy Carp Public House for letting us use there land, without there help and support this event would not be possible.

Carl,

I definitely approve of the ladies C1 prizes. Long overdue and definitely one of the rule changes required at this years ACM regardless of how the ICF vote goes.

I hope the event is a great success.

Mark.
