I think I know why the change was made, but as I'm not the organiser don't take my word as gospel.
The British Open has always been planned to be a "showcase" event for BC, and I think they asked the paddlesports club to run a div 2 as part of that showcase. The event was then advertised as a double on the website and people booked their accommodation. Then, BC changed their minds as they wanted to include Rafting and BoaterX in the "showcase" and then booked those activities onto the legacy, perhaps forgetting that the div 2 was supposed to be on there? This put them in an awkward position and so they had to decide to remove something, which ended up being the slalom on the saturday, allowing 2 other disciplines of canoeing to happen although upsetting a lot of people.
Seems like a bit of miscommunication/poor organisation from BC, not the club.
